Wooohoooo!!! What a session. I got up at around 5am and waited for it to
get a little lighter. By 5.30 am there was enough light to see, so I
checked the wind on the beach which was 25-30 knots with some 35 knots
gusts.... Nice.
I quickly drove around to the car park and rigged my 5m and was on the
water before 6am... But not for long as it was ballistic out there and
impossible to keep the board on the water. A quick change down to my 4.5m
and I tired again. This time I was still totally maxed out and at times way
overpowered as ridiculous gusts whipped the water up into a mass of spray,
lifted me up and spat me out! Most of the time it was just about
controllable though and I had a good sail for a couple hours in survivial
conditions. Due to the conditions I didn't go for anything fancy, just some
flat out gybes on the swells, some backside wave-riding with the odd off
the lip and some BIG jumps. To start with ot was still a little dark which
made judging the height of the jumps and therefore timing my landings a
little difficult. On a couple I was much higher than I thought, so braced
for the landing far too early, which resulted in a few crashes!
